"Prickly Pear Yellow"  is the latest oil painting completed in my cactus flower series.  We have several of these cactus in our backyard.    I find it fascinating that the buds have a vibrant pink color and yet the actual blossom is a delicate yellow.   There are several types of Prickly Pear cacti with blooms that run from yellow to orange to red.    This plant does not develop the big red fruit, but rather a very small fruit.  This was a little challenging to paint because of the multiple nodules on the pads.  But....I am very happy with the results!
