Finally off the easel! Introducing "Loaded Dice" (16x20 oil on panel). Although life got in my way a few times the actual length of time to finish this painting was much longer than I thought it would be. I have painted large wooden dice in the past but never the smaller dice. I thought they would be fun to paint.... although of course I had to complicate the issue by selecting bright colored translucent dice. I purchased the dice and then began playing with ideas for the setup. Somehow the phrase "loaded dice" kept coming to mind and I thought about one of my toy trucks. I have painted this toy truck a few times as I love the bright yellow color and the mag wheels with all the reflections. I decided on the drama of a black background and a black reflective surface. The reflection of the truck and dice made for a challenge, but what fun to catch the light coming through the dice, the shadows of the pips on the other side of the dice in some cases and their reflections on each other. Right up my alley!
