My first painting of 2022 is "Faces of Time", a 16" x 16" oil on panel painting.  My inspiration for this painting was actually another painting I happened to see that included watches.   But as I admired the painting, I realized the part of true interest for me was the face of each watch.  I thought a painting of just watch faces would be both challenging and satisfying.  So of course I went to the Etsy website where one can find most anything. Sure enough I found a seller of watch faces.  The group I purchased grabbed my interest because there were gold, bronze and silver watch faces.  I originally thought a black background but once I started photographing setups I realized I needed more of a contrast so that the shadows from the light source would show and help give the watch faces form.   It is funny....as I think back ....the part that was the most fun to paint was the shadow on the faces from the hour and minute hands.  I wonder what that says about me?

It never ceases to be exciting to hear that one of your paintings has been juried into an international show. ....it just never gets old.  This seems to be truer each year with competition only getting tougher.  My painting, "Bow and Arrows"  (16" x 16" oil on panel) will be a part of the NOAPS Small Works International Juried Exhibition to be held at the Beverly McNeil Gallery, Birmingham, AL opening on April 28th.
