My last painting for 2022 is "Jack in the Box", a 16" x 20" oil painting on panel.  This painting came close to never seeing the light of day...it was a true struggle.  I had set myself up with a real challenge to begin with as I set up the different components and took separate photos I would use in order to create the image I had in my mind.  I had to set up the lighting for each photo so that it came across as one scene.  I wanted the glass jack to be clearly sitting in the bottom of a nest of boxes.  The error I made was having the boxes so close in size.  This left very little space between the boxes for shadows and highlights to create the concept in the viewer's mind of this being a nest of fairly deep boxes.  After a great many changes I decided I achieved my goal.  Do you agree?
